Hyatt Hotels recognizes Hospitality Management Student, Hilary YehHyatt Hotels recognizes HRSM Hospitality Management student

Third year Hospitality Management student Hilary Yeh has been named one of only 19 students nationwide to receive the 2012 Minority Lodging Management Scholarship awarded by Hyatt Hotels & Resorts.

The scholarship recognizes minority students pursuing an undergraduate degree in hotel or hospitality management. Students must be at least a sophomore enrolled in a four-year program to be eligible. The Hyatt Minority Lodging Management Scholarship fund has contributed $588,000 and supported nearly 300 students since being established in 1988.

“A lot of people don’t know that I am one quarter Chinese. It’s something I’m extremely proud of,” said Yeh. “This award is another very personal reminder of how influential my family has been in supporting my education. It’s also further motivation to make myself and my family proud as I finish up at USC and start my career in the hospitality industry.”

“We are proud of Hilary for earning this prestigious award, and in particular for it coming from such an outstanding industry organization,” said Dr. Rich Harrill, acting director at the University of South Carolina’s School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management. “This award speaks to the continued dedication of our students as well as the overall quality of our academic program.”

A native of Franklin, Tennessee, Yeh is the recipient of 11 different academic scholarships since joining USC in 2010. Earlier this year, she was awarded the Rama Scholarship For The American Dream, a student scholarship fund established by JHM Hotels, Inc. Together, the Hyatt and Rama scholarships will cover 100% of Yeh’s tuition and fees for the full academic year.

An active student leader on campus, Yeh is the founding president of a new wedding professionals chapter at USC. She also serves as an ambassador for the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management (HRSM) and holds membership with the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) and the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. She is set to graduate early in August 2013 and is preparing for a career in the wedding, special event or convention management industry.
