Marquis Harrison, iIT '13 Twenty years ago, students considered an internship in Atlanta a dream come true. But global opportunities have pushed the boundaries of student experiences so far that Marquis Harrison is hoping to spend time in India. As a junior in Integrated Information Technology (IIT), the opportunities are endless for Marquis. IIT, one of the most rapidly growing industries represented in HRSM, provides this young scientist and technology buff the undergraduate education and graduate school opportunity he will need to reach his dream job of Chief Information Officer in a financial institution. Marquis is constantly amazed by the emphasis on keeping up with technology in today's business environment. "Technology is becoming such a powerful marketing tool in industries related to HRSM," he says. "Companies are utilizing websites and social networking to connect with consumers and promote their business in a variety of new and exciting ways." Marquis is a student leader involved in several campus organizations that include "I recently had the privilege of attending the Southeastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel conference in Atlanta where my research presentation landed me second place in the physical science category," he said. "Attending the diversity retreat offered by EMPOWER was an incredible experience" Marquis added that one of the primary reasons he chose USC was the diversity of its student body. Marquis's interest in extending a helping hand to other students is evident in his work as a tutor in the University's Opportunity Scholars Program, which provides academic support and services to encourage student success. Dr. Michelle Rogers coordinates the TRIO McNair Scholars Program at USC and described Marquis as a "great student in and out of the classroom. Marquis is eager to help students, has had more student contact than any of our other tutors, and was even voted 'tutor of the year' by other students," she said This is great advice that might just open those doors to an internship in India, and to a future high-level job in a financial institution that will undoubtedly be happy to have him.
