Dear Sponsors,

We would like to thank you for your consideration of our student and providing them with what we consider a very important part of their education. The Sport and Entertainment Management Department at the University of South Carolina prepares undergraduate students for a variety of positions in the sports and entertainment industry. The University of South Carolina is unique in Sport and Entertainment Business as the first major University to create a separate department for the study of sport and entertainment in a business curriculum. The goal of the faculty and the department is to create an integrated academic learning environment for analyzing and resolving the challenges in the business of sport and entertainment.

Our curriculum is a business-oriented degree tailored to meet the specific conditions and demands of the Sport and Entertainment industries. We do not produce coaches, physical education teachers, exercise science specialists, massage therapists, or sports medicine practitioners-- though these are indeed important professions. The Bachelor of Science in Sport and Entertainment Management combines studies in business, accounting, marketing, economics, finance, information management and sport and entertainment management.

Our students leave with a solid business foundation as well as industry theory and best practices. We expect our students to flourish in any industry of the Sport and Entertainment business be it venue management, live entertainment, professional sports, resort or club management, college athletics, sport or entertainment marketing, or convention management, just to name a few.

If you have a questions about our specific curriculum or in general please call our department. We look forward to the chance to speak with you about our students and the opportunity that having one of our students presents your organization.

What the sponsoring organization can expect from the student:

  • The student has taken all the required course work, with the exception of this internship, for graduation with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport and Entertainment Management from the University of South Carolina.
  • The student possesses the necessary computer and communication skills.
  • The student should behave and present themselves in a professional manner.
  • The student should have a basic understanding of your business.

What the sponsoring organization can expect from the Sport and Entertainment Department at the University of South Carolina:

  • The SPTE department will provide prompt and accurate answers to any questions your organization has about the student or our program.
  • The SPTE department will provide you with necessary documentation on course credit received by the student.

What the Sport and Entertainment Department at the University of South Carolina asks from the sponsoring organization:

  • We would like for this to be a real work experience for our student. While we understand there are some menial tasks interns will be asked to accomplish, it is our hope that you also allow the intern to participate in meaningful projects and that they be given a level of responsibility equal to an entry level employee.
  • At the end of the internship, please fill out and email or fax the supervisor’s evaluation form to the Internship Instructor in a timely manner. The student will not receive a grade for this class, and thus will not receive a diploma, until this form is completed. We also ask that you give a true evaluation of the intern just as you would for any employee.
  • If an intern is struggling we ask you to contact our department before you make any decision to terminate the intern.
