ABOUT THE UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM

When considering this major, students should view the Sport and Entertainment industries from a "business" perspective. Our curriculum is a business oriented degree tailored to meet the specific conditions and demands of the Sport and Entertainment industries. We do not produce coaches, physical education teachers, exercise science specialists, massage therapists or sports medicine practitioners - though these are indeed important professions.

The Bachelor of Science in Sport and Entertainment Management combines studies in the liberal arts with studies in business, accounting, marketing, economics, finance, information management and sport and entertainment management. A minimum of 127 credit hours is required to complete the degree.

During the freshman and sophomore years, you will take mostly required University courses, such as English, history, fine arts, foreign language, literature, social science and public speaking. You will also be required to complete six semester hours in business related mathematics or statistics as well as two courses in astronomy, biology, chemistry, geology, marine science or a related natural science. Additionally, you will be required each semester to include courses from your major, such as "Sport in American Life," "Introduction to Sport and Entertainment Management" or "Computer Application in Sport and Entertainment Management."

Nascar Marketing Class with Kasey Kane

The NASCAR Marketing Class meets Kasey Kahne at Darlington Media Days.

A practicum is required at the end of the pre-professional courses. Like the professional internship, the practicum is a "total immersion experience" lasting a minimum of thirteen weeks and a minimum of 520 hours. A practicum may be taken during the spring, summer or fall semesters. Although you will learn and apply networking skills constantly throughout your Sport and Entertainment Management experience, the practicum affords you an opportunity to apply them for extended periods in challenging, real world settings.
