SPRING 2010

January

  • Wine and Cheese – Tuesday, January 26
In France, cheese isn’t just a food; it's part of a lifestyle, part of a cultural heritage. At the table, the French traditionally incorporate a cheese course after the main dish and before the dessert or as a substitute for dessert.  As with wine and artisanal breads, French cheeses manifest a sense of place; they reflect the “terroir” of where they are made. Join us as we explore cheese styles, how cheese is made, how to serve cheese and how to pair cheese with wine.

February

  • Wine 101 – Tuesdays, February 2, 9, 16, 23
So you want to learn more about wine? Our Wine 101 class will arm you with the knowledge you need to become wine savvy. Our class is an informal setting designed to promote a continual wine conversation. Let us teach you the big six wines, and what is meant by woody, oaky and leather. We will teach you how to select wine, the differences in wine types, how to store it and pair it with food.

March

  • Pinot Noir – Tuesday, March 2
Pinot noir grapes, though difficult to cultivate and turn into wine, are among the most popular wine grapes in the world. We will taste/evaluate Pinot Noir from Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Oregon, California, New York and even one from Canada, and of course the original French Pinot Noir. Come discover the “most romantic” and one of the most popular wines of the world; Master Sommelier Madeline Triffon calls pinot "sex in a glass."  This wine must be good. Pinot Noir is the also known for its reduced alcohol content.

  • Wines of Burgundy – Tuesday, March 23
From affordable to collectible, see how an ordinary cluster of grapes from this famous region evolves into a superbly-crafted masterpiece, capable of commanding stratospheric prices for a single bottle. Join us as we taste through some of the Burgundies villages and appellations that make this region so special.

April

  • Wines of Provence – Tuesday, April 13
Provence… the name conjures up images of charming hilltop villages, terraced vineyards, rocky hillsides, pastel meadows, intensely blue skies, windswept seashores, and open-air cafés serving bouillabaisse and rosé.

Made famous by the Impressionist artists Van Gogh, Cézanne, Matisse, and Picasso and popularized more recently in America by Peter Mayle's book A Year in Provence, this sun-drenched region is set in the southeastern corner of France, along the Mediterranean Sea. Provence wines are a direct expression of the "terroir", the land and the people that produce them: landscapes and faces with character—original and different.

  • Backyard Beverages – Tuesday, April 27
This class will feature those summer time favorites that are sure to cool and impress your guests; from Sangrias to martinis, spritzers to punches to coladas and more. Recipes include: Brazilian Lemonade,  Blue Berry Apple Frosty,  Peach Frappe,  Strip Appeal , Apple Berry Bliss,  Hot & Dirty Martini, Tootsie Roll Martini, Classic Pina Colada, Venetian Spritzer and Waikiki Champagne Punch plus some favorites from your instructor!  And as always, McCutchen House will pair these drinks with some of the newest and most popular appetizers.
