Dr. Jun Gao is a professor specializing in the areas of landscape ecology, regional development, tourism planning and management, eco-tourism design in Shanghai Normal University. Meanwhile, he is also the vice president of Shanghai Institute of Tourism, Shanghai Normal University which is the most famous tourism high-education institute of China. He served as a project manager in the World Expo 2010 Shanghai Bidding Office in 2002.
Dr. Gao founded and leads the Shanghai Shida Tourism Planning and Development Center that has undertaken some important tourism planning projects in these years. He was invited to be tourism development advisor of Hainan Province Government and Taizhou Municipal Government of Zhejiang Province. He has published over 50 scientific papers and invited articles, meanwhile he is the author of 8 books such as Landscape Ecology, Tourism Resources Development and planning, Urban Ecology, Eco-tourism and China's Eco-tourism. He serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Tourism Science which is well known as the tourism academic magazine in China, and a standing member of the Ecological Society of China, vice director of the ecotourism branch of the Ecological Society of China, a standing member of the China branch of International Landscape Ecology Association(IALE), a member of the National Geographical Society of China , a standing member of Shanghai Ecological Economics Society and a standing member of the Geographic Society of Shanghai. He also is the guest professor of Beijing International Studies University and the Overseas Chinese University in Fujian Province.
Gao received his BS in Shanghai Normal University and Ph.D. in East China Normal University at Shanghai. He complete his post-doctoral research in Landscape Ecology at the Institute of Applied Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
