Biography
Dr. Graham is a co-founder of the Sport and Entertainment Management program at the University of South Carolina as well as the International Conference on Sport and Entertainment Business.
Prior to joining the University of South Carolina in 1988, he held faculty appointments at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and Northeastern University in Boston. He is the author of six books with his latest, Public Assembly Facility Management: Principles and Practices, published in July, 2004. He has also published more than 50 articles in a host of professional journals.
He was twice elected president of the American Marketing Association’s Sport and Special Event Marketing track and is a past vice president of the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association. He has served on the editorial board of several journals including the Sports Marketing Quarterly and is the founder and editor of the Journal of Venue and Event Management. In addition, he has been a member of numerous evaluation teams tasked with examining undergraduate and graduate sport management curriculums at institutions throughout the United States and Canada.
Dr. Graham has served as a consultant to a variety of sport enterprises; has delivered numerous papers at conferences throughout the world; has participated in a host of national and international professional seminars; and, has served as a United States delegate to the International Olympic Academy in Olympia, Greece.
In addition to being a researcher and author, he is an accomplished teacher and advisor and has received the Excellence in Teaching Award presented by the Mortar Board National Honor Society. He has received many awards for his professional activities and is a recipient of the Lifetime Academic Achievement in Sport and Entertainment Award presented in recognition of his significant contributions to the profession.
Dr. Graham is active within the University community serving on a variety of campus-wide committees. He has also served several terms as an elected member of the Faculty Senate and has twice chaired both the Senate’s Faculty Athletics Advisory Committee and the Faculty Welfare Committee.
