Van Horn
Senior Associate Athletics Director / Senior Woman Administrator,
University of South Carolina Athletics
The University
of South Carolina announced the hiring of Judy Van Horn as
Senior Associate Director of Athletics/Senior Woman
Administrator on Nov. 12, 2010. Van Horn came to Carolina after
a nine-year tenure at the University of Michigan. Serving as
Associate Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator
at Michigan, Van Horn maintained responsibility for the
University's athletics compliance program and was a member of
the Athletics Department's Leadership Team.
Prior to her
tenure at Michigan, Van Horn spent four years in the Department
of Athletics at Michigan State University and eight years at her
alma mater, Central Michigan University.
At South
Carolina, Van Horn oversees all NCAA related initiatives,
including athletics certification and the athletics compliance
program, as well as NCAA, SEC, university and department
policies. Van Horn will supervise a variety of sports programs
and will serve on the department's management team.
Van Horn has
received a number of awards and sat on several national
committees during her career. Van Horn served a two-year term as
President of the National Association for Athletics Compliance.
She was the 2005 recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award
granted by the National Association for Athletics Compliance
(NAAC) and the 2010 recipient of the Frank Kara Leadership
Award, the premier award bestowed to a member of the compliance
profession.
Van Horn holds
a master's degree in sport administration and a bachelor's
degree in business administration from Central Michigan
University. She and her husband, Dave, have three adult children
and three grandchildren.
