- USC Region II Science & Engineering Fair
- The University of South Carolina is the host for the USC
Central South Carolina Region II Science & Engineering Fair. Students
from nine counties (Calhoun, Clarendon, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lexington, Newberry,
Orangeburg, Richland and Sumter Counties) compete for over $30,000.00 in
scholarships, savings bonds, trip awards and public recognition.
Participation in science fairs on the local, regional, national, and
international levels presents opportunities to students for travel and
interaction with scientists from both academic and industrial backgrounds.

- Metric System
- The Metric system is the international system of measurement
- 94 percent of the people on earth use it all the time. Adopting the
metric system is a good deal for Education. Metrication increases both
efficiency and quality and will help ensure that American students stay
technologically competitive with their foreign counterparts. The metric
system is based on decimal arithmetic, just like dollars and cents. Once
learned, it is simpler to use and less prone to error.
NAAS
The National Association of Academies of Sciences (NAAS) has
a strong interest in the work of junior and collegiate academies of science and
in encouraging young people interested in science. The Primary purpose of the
NAAS is to provide an organization for the promotion of the common aims to
the various state academies and of the American Association for the Advancement
of Science. The second purpose of the NAAS is to aid all member state
academies in their common purposes and accomplishments.
