My experience working with Palmetto Health, gave me the opportunity to learn more outside the classroom. I learned how to apply what I learned in the classroom to my job, and it also made me think of more options for my career.
Palmetto Health IT department works with different information systems. I had the opportunity to work with the system administration team. While working with this team, I got a chance to learn the UNIX platform.
Some of the tasks that I did were very similar to those of the Windows platform. While working on the UNIX system, I got the chance to configure servers. I had to do some troubleshooting to see why the network wasn't detecting the servers. Using the knowledge and skills that I leaned in iIT 445 and 545, I was able to see why the network wasn't detecting them. I learned that even though some of the systems were totally different, you can still apply some of the same concepts and approach them in the same way.
I and others got the opportunity to meet with both the Chief Technology Officer and Chief Information Officer. They us examples and told us what we had to do, if we would like to be in those positions one day. I met and work with different types of people and found myself using the True Colors concept to see how to approach them and how to work with each of them. Working with the IT department, gave me a great opportunity to see what a typical day looks like, which made my think of a different career path. I love learning new about new and upcoming technology, so I would like to be able to teach students what I know.
During this internship experience, I have acquired more knowledge and gain a better chance of getting a job. This was a very wonderful full experience.
