Jordan Crafton, a junior Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management major, is not your typical college student.  Jordan started his own independent film company, JDC Films, four years ago. His first film “Blind Love” was a movie about high school love gone wrong. Overall, Jordan’s company has made three full length films, three short films, of which he has debuted two.

JDC’s first documentary, My Block: Strong Island, was released on October 2, 2007, at the Russell House. More than 150 people came out to see the movie’s premiere. The documentary follows the lives of different Long Island natives. Jordan’s upcoming documentary, 4th and Life to Go, is a documentary about the Roosevelt High School football team. HBO is currently looking at the project. Jordan says the majority of his inspiration comes from home and his different experiences growing up in New York.

“The greatest thing about New York is that with your left hand you can touch poverty, but with your right you can touch prosperity,” says Jordan. “Being that close to failure and success keeps me grounded and my desire to do well strong.”

Jordan chose the University of South Carolina for its Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management program. He has worked at the McCutchen House and he recently completed his practicum with Olive Garden. He likes the experience and knowledge students gain within the program; that way they do not go out into the job force and feel unprepared. Jordan says he has had good experiences and he could not ask for a better education.  

“One of my favorite professors is Ed Coon, because he doesn’t sugar coat a thing,” says Jordan.

Even though Jordan enjoys making movies and is passionate about music, his ultimate goal is to own his own restaurant. "I want to bring a Manhattan-style restaurant to the South with a good atmosphere, great food, and a jazz band."
