How long does the graduate program take to complete?
Some students finish the program in 12 months, while others complete
the program in the recommended time period of 16 months.
When are the deadlines for admission?
The application deadline for the Fall Semester is August 1st and for
the Spring Semester is December 1st. The deadline for the Maymester/Summer
I term is May 1st and for the Summer II term is July 1st. For
international applicants, the deadlines vary by country. Please
contact the HRTM department for additional application information.
Does my undergraduate degree here have to be in hotel management
or tourism?
No, your
undergraduate degree may be in any field.
Are there prerequisites for enrolling in the program?
Students wishing to enter the M.I.H.T.M. program should have completed business courses in the areas of statistics, finance, marketing and management principles, and hospitality courses in food-service management, hotel operations and tourism. Certain prerequisites may be waived for students who have demonstrated a high degree of competence in a related area.
Is work experience in the hospitality industry required?
It's definitely beneficial, but not a necessary prerequisite.
May I register for classes outside of the M.I.H.T.M. course offerings?
Yes. You may enroll in classes in any University of South
Carolina school or college, so long as the graduate program director
approves and the course has openings.
Are there scholarship opportunities for M.I.H.T.M. students?
The School awards a number of assistantships to graduate
students on a competitive basis. Stipend rates vary each academic
