Biography
A native of South Carolina, Neal Smoak received his Bachelor’s Degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Administration from the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus (1985) and his M.S. M. (2006) in Masters of Science in Management, both concentrations in management Outside of academia, Smoak has managed in restaurant operations, catering operations, vending management services, hotel management, hotel rooms sales, hotel catering and food service marketing. Smoak teaches undergraduate courses in Restaurant Food Operations and Hospitality Purchasing. Smoak also oversees the operations of the McCutchen House, student operated restaurant, on the Columbia campus of the University of South Carolina. He oversees the Continuing Education programs of the Culinary and Wine Institutes at Carolina

Mr. Smoak’s interests and activities lie in the areas of food service managing, purchasing and marketing in the restaurant and food service industries. In 2006, he was named the Distinguished Educator of the Year by the South Carolina Hospitality Association, Columbia. Mr. Smoak serves on the alumni society board of the college of Hospitality, retail and Sports Management at the University of South Carolina.
