For many students, the life-changing educational opportunities of study abroad are but a dream due to limited financial resources. The Alumni Society of the College of HRSM is answering this need with the Alumni Society Fund. The fund provides scholarships and awards to worthy students who are interested in study abroad, Maymester course destinations and industry conferences.

Walter Dooley, RETL ’93, and Melissa Cash were married on Saturday, April 16, 2011. Walter is the owner of Dooley Landscaping. Melissa is also a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and a Master of Arts in teaching.

Evelyn Fields, BAIS ’85, has been elected to the Board of Directors for the American Association of Blacks in Higher Education.

Beverly Gorka, BAIS ’86, entered into eternal rest on Friday, April 22, 2011.

Laura Gunning, RETL ’08, and Thomas Morgan were married on April 9, 2011. Laura is currently employed by Buckle.

Kelly Hogan, RETL ’05, and Donald Wiggins, Jr. were married March 26, 2011 in Mount Pleasant, SC.

Marie Trenholm Buyck, RETL ’06, and Loitton Hardison, Jr. were married on April 30, 2011 in Orangeburg, SC. Loitton also graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in mechanical engineering. Marie is currently employed by Kicks Exceptional Shoes in Columbia.

Jared Hassard, HRTM ’04, was recently named as 2010 Manager of the Year by Hyatt Dules at the hotel’s annual awards banquet in April. Up until recently, Jared served as the revenue manager for the Hyatt in Herndon, Virginia. He is now the corporate revenue manager for Charlestowne Hotels in Charleston, SC.

Richard Westbrook, SPTE ’00, was elected as a new board member to the Lexington Medical Center board of directors. Richard also received an MBA from the University of South Carolina in 2004.

Tim Pieper, HRTM ’10, is currently employed as the General Manager at Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers in Mt. Pleasant, SC.

Katherine Brown, SPTE ’99, and D.J. Brown, Assistant Director of Compliance in the University of South Carolina Athletics Department, welcomed their son Harrison Floyd on Friday, June 3, 2011. Katherine is also the Chair Elect of the HRSM Alumni Society Board.

Adam Shuman, SPTE ’09, is currently employed by Under Armour in Sales Operations as an Allocations Coordinator.

Justin Drum, SPTE ’10, was recently selected over more than 13,000 applicants to be the Events Manager for the Chicago Bears.

Warren T. Jahn, Jr., HRTM ’03 and MHRTM ’04, is currently employed by InterContinental Hotels Group PLC as a Revenue Management Training Manager in Atlanta, GA.

Brad Sexton, TSTM ’03, is currently working for Babcock & Wilcox Co., Inc. as a Technical Support Specialist.
