Okera Jenkins
Over the past summer while working as a Technical Information Technician at the University of South Carolina (USC) Information Technology Services, the knowledge and hands on experience I received here was like no other. Some of the daily technical tasks I conducted were network and printer configurations, installing software/hardware, diagnose or identify software/hardware problem, activation of student identifications and not to mention networking with many people of status.
Without the knowledge that my professors passed on to me, none of this would be possible. Classes such as TSTM 345 and TSTM 445 played a major roll with doing the simple tasks I was asked to do. If it was not for the networking skills I have learned in those classes, connecting printers to the network, client/server administration and designing network infrastructure would not have been possible. TSTM 447 gave me the skills needed to solve simple troubleshooting problems. I learned to spot out many flaws and other problems that fixed many computers. TSTM 301 helped me prepare for the whole process of receiving my internship. Professor Brookshire gave the class many tips on making you the best prospect for an employer.
I have a ton of career goals and aspirations as of now. This internship has led me to feel that a career in network support would be perfect for a person such as myself. The feeling of knowing that I could diagnose or fix just about any problem dealing with computers gave me such a rush. I know I have a far way to go in order to achieve my long term goal of a Network Administrator Director but I believe this internship has given me a step ahead in the right direction. Hopefully this is just the beginning of what would be a long and illustrious career.
