My name is Monique DaBreu and I'm a senior here at University of South Carolina. This summer I am
interning at the South Carolina Department of Education (SDE). This internship has enabled me to gain
valuable experience in the field of my major, Technology Support & Training Management. Here at SCDE,
I have been working in the Network Services department. This department handles the network aspect of the
information technology services at the agency. They monitor all of the agency’s servers, troubleshoot user
issues, and maintain the agency’s user directory, etc.
My duties change frequently. Some of the tasks I perform include: providing support for the maintenance of
technical documentation and records, assisting with the procurement of hardware and software maintenance of
related records, receiving and processing help desk requests from agency users, learning about how the user
directory is maintained, assisting with the maintenance of the agency’s hardware and software inventor,
installing client computers and peripheral devices, conducting software installations, and creating training m
anuals for users, etc.
Many of courses taken previously in this degree program were very visible in the setting in which I interned.
While interning here at the South Carolina Department of Education, I have gained a lot of valuable insight
on work ethics, teamwork, time management, and overall, how technology works in the workplace and why it is
so important.
