  FIELD STUDY AND STUDY ABROAD

The Department of Retailing offers Field Study Experiential Opportunities whereby students are able to receive a “behind the scenes” understanding of Fashion and Retailing. Under faculty guidance, students can earn credit while attending a one week field study during the Maymester. Students meet with retail buyers, manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors. Examples of field study locations have included New York City, Las Vegas, Paris, and Hong Kong. Students are also encouraged to study for one semester abroad. The University of South Carolina offers a staff specifically to assist students in understanding their options for studying abroad.

2009 Paris Maymester Study Tour

This intensive study abroad course sponsored by USC's Department of Retailing focuses on Paris's retail environment. Participants will have the opportunity to study retail operations, merchandising, and promotion in Paris, France. Included in the program are visits to retailers, fashion designers, museums, and cultural events. Visit the new Dolce and Gabanna store, Collette store and hear a lecture from Prudence, designer for Vivienne Westwood.

The cost of the trip is $3,300 plus tuition and fees (3 credits). Students are to enroll in RETL 491 for Maymester 2008. The credits may be applied toward RETL elective or general elective requirements.

  • Lecture with Prudence designer with Vivienne Westwood
  • Visit to YSL,Alain Lalou and Jean Charles Castelbajac
  • Demonstration by Madame Gres`s draping method

Payment Schedule to reserve a spot:

1st down payment $1,000 Due December 1, 2008
2nd down payment $1,000 Due January 22, 2009
3rd and final payment $1,300 Due March 5, 2009
Tuition & fees Due May 8, 2009
