McCutchen House Fall Dining

Please join the students of the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management as we prepare for another exciting and rewarding fall semester in 2014.

The McCutchen House is open for lunch dining during the fall beginning Thursday, August 28 through Friday, December 5, 2014. Please note we will be closed Thursday and Friday October 23 & 24, and Tuesday, November 4, 2014. The McCutchen House hours of lunch service are Tuesday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. -1:30 p.m.

Because of the academic requirements of the students to complete assignments, guests must conclude lunch and payment for lunch by 2:00 p.m.

Phone reservations are available by calling 803-777-4450 beginning on August 18, 2014.

A note from the Director

For our returning guests, we hope that you have enjoyed the lunches and dinners along with our wine and cooking classes. For our new friends, welcome! Please join us at our wide variety of culinary and wine options throughout the year.

As guests of McCutchen House, your participation is not only appreciated and welcomed, it is also essential to the success of our students. Your visit allows for continued hands-on learning experience and their ability to successfully manage and operate a restaurant. With your support, these venues continue to assist the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management and the McCutchen House in preparing and developing the next generation of hospitality managers. Together, we are achieving a key goal of the University of South Carolina’s “Blueprint for Success.”

Listed below are short descriptions of what McCutchen House offers:

*Wine classes: Tuesday nights usually every two weeks, 3-5 course tapas meal served with tasting of 4-6 wines or beer. Register for wine events here.

*Chef Du Jour classes: A half-day of hands on cooking and learning on Saturdays. Register for Chef du Jour events here.

*Thursdays at McCutchen: A five-course dinner served on most Thursday nights. You are welcome to bring your own wine and we’ll provide the rest! For Thursdays at McCutchen menus and registration, click here.

Reservations for all wine classes, Chef du Jour classes and Thursdays at McCutchen are available by online registration and pre-payment only. Available classes are posted here.

Lunch reservations are available by phone only at 803-777-4450.

Private lunch dining

Private dining on the 3rd floor of the McCutchen House in the Patterson Room is offered to any group of 8-12. Whether it’s a group of friends, a business meeting or a group from work, you will experience a unique private board room style setting, minimum of 8 guests.

Cooking Classes, wine Classes and Thursdays at McCutchen

Thursdays at McCutchen—The McCutchen House now offers "Thursdays at McCutchen," a four- or five-course evening dinner designed and prepared by the students of the Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management Program (HRTM) under the direction of teaching staff and chefs. Thursdays at McCutchen guests will be seated using a "cruise ship or making new dining friends" seating arrangement where parties of fewer than six will be seated with others. Thursdays at McCutchen will give students an opportunity to expand their expertise in menu and operational management—
one of the Blue Print for Excellence goals of the College of Hospitality, Retail, and Sport Management. The event is being offered to accommodate the need for additional and improved learning oppportunities for the growing HRTM student body.

Wine Classes—Discover the wines and sample the proper foods from these regions. Enjoy a night of wine tasting and great food, tapas style. Wine events are $50 per person (*unless other wise noted), except for series classes which are $179 per person. All classes begin at 6:30 pm. You must be 21 to attend the wine classes. Chef du Jour Classes at McCutchen House—Enjoy a morning of culinary instruction at the Chef du Jour classes! These half-day cooking classes are designed to help the layperson get a leg up in the kitchen. $50 per person, 9 am - 1 pm (*unless other wise noted). Private wine tastings

Our private wine tastings are offered to anyone who has a private group of 15 or more. Whether it’s a group of friends or a group from work, you will experience great wine, great food, and learn about the differences is wine types, how to select wines, and pair them with food.

This tasting can be tailored to your preference from Old World wines to New World wines, or anything in between. Call us at 777-8225 today to design your wine tasting.

Fresh on the Menu
The McCutchen House chefs and students agree to prepare menus that include at least 25% Certified South Carolina Grown foods and products in season and feature the Fresh on the Menu brand. This program will work to use our greatest resources to help ensure that South Carolinians can act progressively and think competitively in the global economy of our future.
