Scholarships provide incentives needed to attract and retain the best students for the college and expand the college’s recruiting efforts in the state and region. You can give to a general scholarship or create a named scholarship starting at the $25,000 level. This level allows the scholarship to be endowed and therefore provide these needed funds into perpetuity. The capital remains intact and the earnings are used as scholarship funds. Professorship in International Tourism Creation of a professorship in International Tourism will provide the funds to hire a well-known scholar who could lead other faculty members in international tourism research projects. This would enhance the international reputation of the college and increase the potential for collaborative research. The professorship would also lead students and faculty in research projects benefiting industry.
Tourism creates jobs, income, new businesses, and a better quality of life. The International Tourism Research Institute exists to make this happen in your community or for your business. The institute serves international, national, regional, state, and local clients. The mission of the institute is to provide innovative assistance focused on tourism-related issues to communities, regional development organizations, state and federal agencies, and individual businesses. The Institute advocates on behalf of the tourism industry, focusing on tourism-related issues, providing credible data, and promoting the industry as a viable economic development strategy. The mission of the Center for Retailing is to create and disseminate knowledge about retailing to the global retailing industry. As we move forward into the information age, the Center for Retailing is positioned to offer retailing education throughout the world through the internet, video-conferencing, and exchange programs. The College of Hospitality, Retail, and Sport Management (HRSM)’s new building will become an icon in the heart of the rapidly evolving Innovista campus (Research Park) and will be used by the entire University family. The design is classical southern charm. It will provide a true home for our students, their parents, our business partners, friends and alumni. The HRSM Building will incorporate an entire city block and provide the much needed space to grow all the programs in our care: Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management, Retail, Sport and Entertainment Management and the Technology Support and Training Management program. All of these forward looking programs could double with available space. The building incorporates a conference center which will become the gathering place for the entire University and all of the College’s functions. The University currently has no conference center, and as a result, cannot hold major meetings on campus. The Board of Trustees, the President, and all major colleges will have access to this facility which, we predict, will be in use almost all the time. The conference center will become the staging place for the President to host important functions, football pre-game receptions, and other major events such as Homecoming receptions. The income generated from these events will be used for overhead expenses of the center. We believe the building is a fitting legacy South Carolina’s leading families who have collectively spent a lifetime of generously giving back to their state and communities. The University of South Carolina and The College of Hospitality, Retail, and Sport Management will be honored to have a signature building that allows us to continue proving the best education for our service industries that drive the economy of South Carolina – Hospitality and Tourism. |
