Large Capital Students in HRSM 301 over the past two years have provided needed assistance to many area non-profits through the “Giving Back” project. Students are placed in teams and given $100 as seed money for their project to benefit the charity of their choice. More than $40,000 has been raised for local charities by student teams over the past two years.

This semester, two teams selected Darfur as their project. The “Rally for Darfur,” a statewide awareness rally, was the launch for the project. The students connected with Tommy Preston, who is the Coordinator for Government and Community Relations in the President’s Office, to lend a hand at the Rally.  The following Monday, the team arranged and put on a benefit for the Genocide Intervention Network at The Village Idiot Pizza Restaurant in Five Points.

“On behalf of President Sorensen and the Carolina Family, we extend our great appreciation to the HRSM students who helped raise money for Darfur over the past month. This region of Africa has dealt with great tragedy over the past few years and it’s wonderful to see students at our university who are committed to making a difference around the world. This is what Carolina is all about!” said Preston.
